I was trying to create a wee bit of character depth here, that Vachel is somehow abandoned, or an orphan, or maybe lost himself. The idea that people who are kinda jerks and who push others away usually have been made that way by something in their lives (not that it justifies mean actions).

This strip always determined how I saw Vachel’s background, so when the Rogues of Wool series ran, I assumed that Vachel wasn’t describing his own life, but rather singing a (in the context of the story) traditional song. I was therefore really caught off guard when his sister turned up.
Heh. Drawings are getting simpler. We can no longer see the claws on Ted’s hands (paws?) but we can see them on Vatchel’s talons
@Neil….. a good point. I think I always pictured him and his sister alone. Well, and their cousin, who’s mentioned once or twice.
